A Kitchen Renovation: The beginning.

It’s no secret, I’ve been planning redoing our kitchen since January 2008. That’s right, this puppy is 2 SOLID YEARS in the making. The sad part is the money has been sitting in savings, just waiting to be used for the kitchen. In all that planning, I’ve come up with lots and lots of different styles that could potentially be used. My brain runs crazy with ideas all the time (My poor husband, I’m sorry I put you through the constant changes… but didn’t you hear that part in the vows about for better or worse, sickness and health, DIY and feng shui?) so this is why it’s been 2 years.

apurple This one was actually a set up at the Woodbridge Ikea. I took a picture, went home, and copied it into this mock up. It was fun looking, but not a long term idea.

baltic kitchen This one was more trendy, the basic sage green walls / Adel Medium Brown Cabinets / Cheap Baltic Brown Granite. Ironically, it’s the one everyone loves. Probably because it IS the trendy one. If you know me by now, you know this would be why I DIDN’T choose this.

modelkitch This was more safe/investment choices. Something that could please any potential buyer because it was nice and… neutral. But as much as I want to think about the potential buyer, I would sink into a hole of blahness dealing with this kitchen everyday.

slate So I had a schizo moment, where i just put together more urban wall colors, with my fave- slate floors, and a coordinating granite counter. The hard part was finding a cabinet color I really liked. So I just put in one of each of the ones I thought would look good in here.

And after all that, I somehow settle on this:

fourth The wall color isn’t set in stone, but I would love the slate moved to the backsplash to keep the dark wood floors consistent through the entire house (aside from the newly carpeted bedrooms) and this awesome looking new laminate (Formica 180FX). We hit a big snag with the cabinets, which I’ll touch on in the coming posts. So look out in the next couple months for a play by play of our progress. I’m looking forward to the finished product, and I’m excited for the DIY’s, but I’m still trying to figure out what we’re going to do about dinner.
